The Royal Navy CCF cadets recently dug into the art of boat building, through a session led by Finn, a Royal Navy CCF cadet in Year 10.

Finn gave an insightful presentation and demonstration, following which the cadets began constructing their own boat using a kit prepared by Finn. Using one of his unique designs, Finn pre-made the panels, with cadets actively involved in cutting 'Chine' batons for the initial stage of boat construction.

The cadets explored different techniques using a range of specialised tools, fabrics, and designs. The hands-on session allowed them to gain an insight into the construction of Clinker boats and modern racing vessels. They also learned about the use of moulds in boat creation, paired with a vacuum process.

The practical boat-building session received enthusiastic feedback from all of the cadets. A big thank you to Finn for not only crafting the boat kit, but also for sharing his tools, some of which were passed down from his grandfather. The event was a resounding success, and we look forward to sharing more news on the development of the boat!
