Old Pangbournians Rowing

We are extremely proud to announce that Old Pangbournian, Frankie Allen, has won Gold as part of GB’s mixed coxed four in the 2024 Paralympics, extending the longest winning streak in British sport, being unbeaten for 14 years!

Prior to leaving for Paris, Frankie and some of her fellow GB team mates received a phone call from Prime Minister Keir Starmer, wishing them luck:

The crew's hardwork and dedication took them over the line to bring home Gold. Frankie, already a double World Champion, took to the water for the first time on 30 August in the heats. The crew of the PR3 Mixed coxed four (PR3 Mix4+), Great Britain’s most successful boat, continued their winning streak in their first heat, also clocking up a World and Paralympic Best Time of 6:43.68. The crew were the fastest across both heats, and went straight through to the A Final on Sunday 1 September.

The last race of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Regatta saw the crew pitted against the USA, France, Germany, Australia and Italy. At the 250m mark all six crews were within half a length of each other with GB up 40 strokes per minute.  The USA, France and Germany were all still vying for medals as the race entered its second quarter.  Frankie's crew had a half length lead at the halfway stage, ahead of the USA and France. In the final stages the USA pushed team GB all the way but were unable to break the record that the GB boat has held in this class since 2010.

On behalf of everyone across the Pangbourne community, we send our heartiest congratulations to Frankie and the crew for a magnificent achievement. A truly golden performance.
