Old Pangbournians

We have thoroughly enjoyed having Old Pangbournian, Megan Fergusson back at the College for a week as part of her study placement. Megan is currently in her second year studying Sport, Physical Education and Health at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Whilst at Pangbourne College, Megan received a brilliant sponsorship opportunity with top-class sports equipment company, Grays International due to her Hockey success. She was also a sport scholar and achieved two Distinction *s in BTEC Sport Diploma.

Nowadays, Megan is taking some time to focus on coaching and her degree and is hoping to get back into playing Hockey and Netball next year. At University, Megan is determined to make a difference and improve the inclusion of disabled athletes in Hockey so looks forward to working closely with the Director of Hockey at Cardiff Metropolitan to work towards this goal.

During her placement week at Pangbourne College, Megan has been shadowing theory and practical sport sessions, taking time to observe and reflect on the method of teaching used. During her gap year, Megan worked full time as a PE teacher at a local prep school and has enjoyed learning the difference between coaching younger and older students. In the future, Megan hopes to do her PGCE whilst working with the aim to coach and work in a school environment.

Megan says that Pangbourne has given her skills that have been crucial to getting her to where she is today. This includes time management and being proactive, especially with her role as Chief of Illawarra, which she says helped her develop her communication skills which has been essential when networking with professionals in the sporting industry and widening her connections.
