The scene was set for the Summer Serenade Concert 2024 at Pangbourne College! A warm, early summer evening with a clear blue sky provided the perfect backdrop for an audience eagerly anticipating an evening of top-notch music. With a packed programme full of well-known ‘foot tappers,’ the evening promised to be fantastic, and it certainly delivered.
Outstanding Performances and Musical Journey
The concert featured outstanding musical performances from soloists and both small and large ensembles. Attendees were taken on a musical journey from the College’s Naval tradition, through the world of dance, across Europe, into the Americas, and Music Theatre, culminating in a Big Band Finale. This evening of celebration recognised and applauded the skills and talents of our musicians, with a special ‘thank you and farewell’ to our departing senior musicians for whom this was their final ‘gig’ at the College.
Exceptional Solo Performances
We enjoyed superb performances from a variety of soloists:
- Jayden, Eve, James, and Murewa (Piano)
- Kit, Immie, and Annabelle (Voice)
- Aaron and Fin (Guitar)
- Immie and Annabelle reprised one of their hit duets from the College’s 2023 production of ‘Chicago,’ and both guitarists performed their own compositions.
The audience was captivated by the quality of each solo performance, which was complemented by first-class performances by the Marching Band, Chamber Choir, College Choir, and Big Band. If you weren’t there, you missed a real treat!
Gratitude to the Music Team
A huge thank you goes to the entire Pangbourne College music team: Andy Thornhill, George Picker, and Ella Pope, along with a first-class team of Visiting Music Teachers. Thank you especially to all the performers who worked extremely hard to achieve such high standards of musicianship, making this year’s Summer Serenade an unforgettable evening.
Looking Ahead
Our musicians now look forward to singing at the Falkland’s Islands Memorial Chapel in June and preparing for two significant parades in July.
