We would like to congratulate Upper Sixth pupil, Josie Symons, for her outstanding equestrian achievement. Last month, it was announced that Josie was selected for the Podium Potential pathway level of the World Class programme that is part of the Olympic Development Squad.
A significant amount of support is available when selected for such a prestigious programme. Josie will receive the finest international coaching, human sports science expertise, a sport psychologist, a specialist saddle fitter, and much more.
Upon beginning her time here at Pangbourne College, Stacey Mackie, Head of Riding, asked Josie what her goals were for the future. Josie’s response was bold, yet simple - she wanted to compete in the Olympics.
During her time in Dunbar (Year 7 and 8), Josie won county titles and competed in elite classes very early on. At around Year 10, Josie exceeded county level competitions and progressed onto more challenging adventures. In 2017, she competed in the FEI European Championships in Slovakia, where she successfully secured a Gold Medal for the young GB team.
Recognising Josie’s immense capabilities and talent, the College has continuously strived to support her throughout her time here. From providing Josie with the flexibility that she needs to train, yet ensuring that she does not miss out on other aspects of college life, such as her studies and time with friends.
We hope you will join us in congratulating Josie on her extremely well deserved success. We cannot wait to see what she accomplishes next.
