Year 10 pupil Isla Apiafi has been selected for the Rugby England U16 Development Player Pathway.

Isla’s achievement comes when girls’ rugby is really growing in popularity across the country following the continued success of the England Women’s team ‘The Red Roses’. Isla plays for Berkshire County Rugby and also for Reading RFC. Reading RFC has just qualified for the next round of the National Cup after some gruelling rugby in very tough conditions, with Isla scoring two tries.

The Rugby England U16 ERDPP (England Regional Development Player Pathway) has been launched to complement existing club and school rugby and support the rapid growth of the women’s and girls’ game. It will focus on core skills and physical development, providing a platform of success for all individuals.

Mrs Apiafi, Isla mother says, “Pangbourne College has been a fantastic support to Isla's pathway, and we have been over the moon with how Director of Sport, Mr Hewick has embraced inclusion, allowing Isla the flexibility to train.”

Mr Hewick is delighted with the news, and says, "With her grit and determination it's clear to see why Isla has been selected. Her commitment and hard work is clearly evident when participating in sport at school and it is great to see the her go on to be selected at this level. The Pangbourne Community is delighted with the news and we wish Isla the best of luck.”
