Pangbourne College is delighted to welcome Max Clementson, Openside Flanker for Chinnor Rugby Club, as its Director of Rugby from September 2024.

Max has had a formidable Rugby career to date having played for England 7s at 7 World series tournaments in 2022, competed for Team England at the Commonwealth Games 2022 and he was part of the squad for England 7s at the 2022 Sevens Rugby World Cup.  He is currently signed at Chinnor for the up-coming 2024-2025 season.

Max explains, “I’m delighted to be taking on the role of Director of Rugby at Pangbourne College and building on the foundations already established. I want to bring Pangbourne College back to a competitive Rugby School at the top of its game.”

He continues, “My challenge as a coach will be to find new ways to achieve this and I will be pushing the boys to reach their full potential. I'm confident we will achieve some fantastic results moving forward.”

Director of Sport, Mr Sam Hewick, said: “We are thrilled to have Max as Director of Rugby, his wealth of experience playing top level Rugby will be a huge asset to Pangbourne students, enabling them to develop their game further.  Alongside this, he sets a brilliant example to students about being dependable, determined and capable, all of which has led to his successes in sport.”

Furthering its commitment to performance sports, Pangbourne College has also appointed Louise Tremlett as Director of Hockey.  She will combine this with her role as Assistant Director of Sport. One of the College’s aims is to continue to provide an outstanding girls’ hockey programme, and this is one of the remits of this role.

Before joining Pangbourne, I coached U14 Girls and Boys teams to national finals and led U18 Boys and U16 Girls teams to regional indoor championships. Currently, I am part of the England Hockey Coaching Development Team, delivering sessions to U14 and U16 players. I endeavour to ensure each player is challenged to excel and achieve their best potential whilst maintaining a fun and enjoyable coaching environment.

Louise explains, “I have been working with the College for almost a year and am thrilled to have been given this opportunity.  Girls’ hockey at Pangbourne has gone from strength-to-strength and I want to continue on that trajectory.”

Mr Oli Knight, Head Designate says, “The appointment of these positions shows Pangbourne College’s ongoing commitment to two of its performance sports.  We are passionate about raising the standards of these sports.”

Mr Hewick continues “We want our students to foster a lifelong love of physical activity through our core pillars of participation and meaningful competition, and ultimately help them to develop a strong character through sport. Max and Louise’s appointments will help us in continuing to achieve this goal. Furthermore, this was one of our core development points identified in our sport strategy in order to improve performance in sport.”
