Community Headmaster

In 2006, the College adopted seven Flag Values which underpin everything we do as a nurturing, pupil-centred community. They are:

  • Kindness
  • Resilience
  • Selflessness
  • Moral Courage
  • Integrity
  • Initiative
  • Industry

In recent months, the Senior Leadership Team has been aware of the growing conversation in wider society around the importance of ‘Respect’ and the attribute of being respectful to others.

Therefore, on Friday 3 December, the Head, Thomas Garnier announced ‘Respect’ as the eighth Flag Value of the College. During that day’s assembly Mr Garnier explained that there are two meanings of ‘Respect’:

  1. To admire someone or something deeply as a result of their abilities, quality or achievements.
  2. To have due regard for someone’s feelings, wishes or rights.

Mr Garnier went on to say, “Both of these meanings are applicable to the way we conduct ourselves at Pangbourne and the expectations we have of our community of pupils, staff, parents and alumni. It therefore makes perfect sense for us to update our Flag Values to incorporate this important attribute which is recognised and valued around the world.

The Flag Values are at the very foundation of our ethos; they are as relevant now as they have ever been, and underpin all that we do as a College.”

The College Flag Values are now: Kindness, Selflessness, Industry, Resilience, Respect, Moral Courage, Initiative and Integrity.
