Pangbourne College has received FLAIR’s Racial Equity Silver Award to signify its noticeable progress in responding to the recommendations following FLAIR’s annual Racial Equity Questionnaire. The FLAIR Awards recognise a school’s commitment to building a racially equitable culture.

FLAIR is an independent leading race and ethnicity data platform that believes education has a vital role in promoting equity and inclusion to future generations. FLAIR has enabled Pangbourne College to have a better understanding of the experience of all its pupils through an annual anonymous survey.

Mrs Caroline Bond, Assistant Head Pupil Mental Health and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead explains, “While we are never complacent on our journey to building a racially equitable culture at Pangbourne, we are delighted to receive the FLAIR Silver Award which is a recognition of the initiatives we have taken and the progress we have made.”

“Pangbourne prides itself on building and nurturing a school community where pupils can grow into the best versions of themselves. Our flag values of selflessness, moral courage, respect, kindness, initiative, resilience, industry and integrity form the basis for the ethos that drives Pangbourne to be what it is today.”

A Racial, Diversity and Inclusion Working Party was set up at Pangbourne College after the formation of the Black Lives Matter movement and started by listening and discussing different people’s personal experiences at the College. From there, it has evolved to influence some positive changes, such as producing a Racial, Diversity and Inclusion Policy, initiating  some significant curriculum changes and encouraging our young people to be upstanders rather than bystanders.

Pangbourne College's inclusion statement in the EDI Policy states: ‘Pangbourne College is committed to establishing an inclusive community where people with different beliefs, views, interests and backgrounds live and collaborate together, celebrating our common humanity and learning from each other.’
