At midday on Sunday 12th June, a Service of remembrance and thanksgiving, to commemorate those who lost their lives in the Liberation of the Falkland Islands in 1982, will be held at the Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel, Pangbourne College.

His Royal Highness, Prince Edward, Duke of Kent KG GCMG GCVO CD ADC will be in attendance. His Royal Highness is the Colonel of the Scots Guards, of which the 2nd Battalion were part of the Task Force that liberated the Islands.

Attendance is by pre-booked ticket only, however, a live stream of the Service will be broadcast from the College's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCThGg33F93VnoGEDlufAeBg

51 former pupils of Pangbourne College took part in the Task Force to Liberate the Islands – 13 of whom were decorated.

Among those attending will be next of kin of those who lost their lives, veterans of the Conflict and their families, along with supporters of the Chapel. The Service will be led by the Anglican Bishop to the Armed Forces, Rt. Revd Hugh Nelson, and the Roman Catholic Bishop to the Armed Forces, Rt. Revd.  Paul Mason.

The Chapel, which was opened in March 2000, by Her Majesty the Queen, holds a service nearest to the date of the Liberation of the Falkland Islands (14th June) each year, however, this year being the 40th Anniversary of the Liberation, some 1,000 people are expected to attend.

At 0930 on the day of the Service members of the Falklands 40th Anniversary Bike Ride, led by veteran Gus Hales, a former member of the Parachute regiment, will arrive at the Chapel for a short Service of Prayer and Remembrance, led by Rev. David Cooper, Falklands veteran, former member of the Parachute Regiment and Trustee of the Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel Trust.  The team are taking part in an eight day ride visiting memorials relating to 1982 and culminating with a ceremony in Aldershot later that day.
