From September 2022, the College will offer three additional courses to the Sixth Form programme of study. They are A Level Sociology, A Level Product Design and Level 3 BTEC Enterprise and Entrepreneurship.
Sociology is a complex yet interesting subject that will encourage students to research and debate topical societal issues. It will include themes of socialisation, identity and culture within contexts such as family, health, poverty and media. Students will gain an understanding of the inter-relationships between individuals, groups, institutions and societies.
With imaginative practical work at the heart of A Level Product Design, the course provides students with a true understanding of what it means to be a designer. Students will undertake both design and manufacturing tasks. It differs from the BTEC Level 3 course as theory is more prominent in the A Level offering, building on from learning that takes place at GCSE. Design-based trips and excursions will also be on offer to the students.
The Level 3 BTEC (Extended Certificate) in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship will cover four separate units; Enterprise and Entrepreneurs, Developing a Marketing Campaign, Personal and Business Finance, and Enterprise and Intrapreneurship in Practice. The course will give students the necessary skills and knowledge to market and develop an effective business.
Mr Mark Seccombe, Director of Studies at Pangbourne College, says, "We are very much looking forward to enriching our Sixth Form offering here at Pangbourne. The decision to include the new subjects will further modernise our programme of study, fully preparing our pupils for the future and supporting their university and career choices. We have already seen a substantial amount of interest from both internal pupils and external candidates and we are incredibly excited for the subjects to commence from September."
