We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Mark Skidmore as our new Deputy Head Pastoral from September 2023.

Mr Skidmore started teaching 26 years ago and has worked across the independent and state sector. Prior to his current role as Head of Mathematics here at Pangbourne, he was Deputy Head Pastoral and Boarding at The Royal Alexandra and Albert School and, before that, Head of Boarding at Pangbourne College.

Mr Garnier, the Head, welcomes the appointment, saying, 'Mr Skidmore’s pastoral experience, including as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, was evident in the rigorous selection process, which involved senior staff, the Governing Body’s Safeguarding Lead Mrs Sally Rossiter, and a pupil panel. I look forward to working with him to further develop the excellence of our pastoral care for pupils and staff.'

Mr Skidmore is involved in other areas of College life, including rowing coaching, rugby coaching, tutoring, ski trip coordination, and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme as a supervisor and assessor. He explains, 'Taking an active role in all of these activities across the College gives me the opportunity to know pupils outside of the classroom, which is really valuable and gives me a greater understanding of the challenges and worries some of our pupils may be facing.

Pangbourne College has an excellent pastoral care system in place but in an increasingly complex, fast-paced world I want to ensure that we continue to learn and improve so we can best support our pupils during their time with us.'
