#PangCollYear10 pupil Leo has started competing in the Danish F4 championship, which is the only single seater category that allows drivers as young as 14 to participate. He joined the series for the 4th and 5th rounds in Denmark and Sweden.

Ring Djursland

Leo qualified 3rd in the fourth round at the undulating Ring Djursland circuit, which determined his starting position for the first race of the weekend. He converted this into 2nd position after fifteen minutes of racing. Thanks to the reverse grid rules, Leo started the second heat from 7th position. Within a few laps, Leo was making his way through the field with a string of committed passes, eventually crossing the finishing line in 3rd place.

For the next reverse grid race, he started in 6th position and impressively moved up to 2nd place! The combined results from the first three heats earned Leo pole position for the final. However, he lost a position at the start and found himself in an exciting battle, with the top 3 cars pulling nearly half a lap ahead of the rest of the field. Towards the end of the race Leo attempted an ambitions pass for the lead, but contact from behind resulted in him losing a position and finishing in 3rd place.

Padborg Park

A similar format followed for the next round of the championship at Padborg Park. Leo qualified in 3rd position, just 0.1 seconds behind the leader. He would start and finish the first heat in 3rd position. For the reverse grid race, Leo moved up from a starting position of 6th to finish impressively in 2nd position. This was a particularly strong result as Leo was using old tyres, having chosen to save his single allocated set of new tyres for the last race.

The final proved to be very close, but largely uneventful, with Leo holding a close 2nd position for the entire race. He finished 1.5 seconds behind the leader and 4 seconds ahead of the next car. Well done, Leo - what an impressive achievement!

Leo competed in the next round of the Danish F4 championship on Saturday 16 September. A video of the final race is available here: https://youtu.be/m06vK4IuOvE
