Uplifting Notes from the Director of Music

Music continues apace at Pangbourne. Despite the restrictions of Lockdown 3, our musicians have continued to engage fully with: one to one instrumental lessons, by recording individual parts for a mass performance of ‘Sailing’ (made famous by Rod Stewart), and by working hard in preparation for external examinations.

Lucia, a member of our Upper Sixth, certainly falls into the latter group. She is celebrating her recent success in not just one, but in two grade 8 examinations submitted via live recordings over two consecutive days!

She was awarded a distinction in her flute exam with an outstanding mark of 136/150 (probably one of the highest marks in the UK this session), and a most creditable merit in her piano exam.

Lucia is already working on her flute diploma repertoire for her recital examination in the summer – a potential second ARSM award holder in the College in one academic year!

Director of Music, Mr Chris McDade said: ‘It is such a privilege to work with such a talented musician as Lucia – her musicianship is quite exceptional and her flute playing, in particular, displays a musical maturity well beyond her years.

‘We look forward to seeing students back in College very soon. While we will always operate within the strict health and safety guidelines, the Department is very much looking forward to re-commencing rehearsals for some major College events in the summer.’
