Community Sixth Form

Following a fundraising effort by Basildon Primary School to try and double the number of Chromebooks at the school, Pangbourne College has donated 14 of its ex-staff devices to help with this endeavour.

Accompanied by several Pangbourne Sixth Formers, Mr David Metcalfe, Macquarie Housemaster, delivered the Chromebooks to Basildon Primary in June. They were gratefully received by The Head, Miss Cliffe, and a group of enthusiastic pupils.

Miss Melissa Cliffe, Head of Basildon Primary, was incredibly grateful for the donation. She explains, “This kind donation of Chromebooks from Pangbourne College will make a huge difference to our IT provision. The last year has shown the importance of IT and the role it plays in allowing children to access learning. It is also essential to equip our children with the relevant IT skills for the future, and having access to devices such as these Chromebooks will allow us to do so.”

Mr David Metcalfe explains:

We realise the crucial role that IT plays in student learning, even more so during the Pandemic. We had the advantage of an IT infrastructure which enabled our students to stay engaged. Even when the worst scenario hit and students had to self-isolate, our timetable continued without flinching; the learning carried on and we continued to meet our primary aim of providing an excellent academic programme for our students.
That’s why we are delighted to donate these Chromebooks to Basildon Primary to help improve its IT provision.
