About me
A short stint as an Architecture student led me to my true passions for English literature, film and rugby. I studied a BA degree in English and Film and an MA in Film Studies, all at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. After spending a few years as a scriptwriting lecturer and Head of Film Production at film schools in Cape Town, I started my PhD in adaptation studies before switching it to a PGCE in arts education. This led to English teaching positions at independent boarding schools in South Africa and then Hampshire before finally settling down with my family in leafy Oxfordshire.
Why do I love teaching my subjects?
I love art in all its many forms and teaching gives me the opportunity to share my passion, knowledge and experience.
My other roles at Pangbourne are:
Rugby and rowing coach
If I hadn't been a teacher I would have been...
A rally driver, an architect, or running an obscure independent bookshop.
My role model is...
My Year 8 English teacher. Our classes were filled with surfing videos, conversations with published poets, British comedy sketches, and evening screenings of his favourite cult films. Think Mr Keating from 'Dead Poets Society'.
I would describe Pangbourne as...
A very special place where students and staff are encouraged to teach and learn from each other in a safe, supportive (and beautiful) environment.
