About me
Upon leaving university with a BSc in Agriculture specialising in Animal Science I worked as a nutritionist for a feed mill which was interesting. I was responsible for ordering raw ingredient's globally. This gave me a real fascination into shipping and logistics - a little geeky I know!
My husband and I have two sons who both went to Pangbourne, they are both now at university doing a BA in Business and a PhD in Mental Health. With time on my hands, I thought it would be a good idea to go back to college and requalify as a specialist Dyslexia teacher. I have been an invigilator at Pangbourne in LS for many years and have thoroughly enjoyed it but I wanted to be more involved.
When I am not at school or helping on the farm I enjoy riding and competing my horse Pollyanna who we bred at home. They say 'everyday is a school day' and this is no different with horses. It is extremely satisfying to train a horse from foal to competition level - a bit like completing a circle. I also love reading, cooking and entertaining but most of all I love having the family together and hearing what they are all getting up to.
Why do I love teaching?
I think children and young people are under a lot of pressure and anything I can do to make their learning experience more positive is what drives me on. It's looking for that lightbulb moment when you may have had to try three different ways to make a point clear. The eureka moment is very rewarding.
I would describe Pangbourne as...
I have experienced both being a parent of Pangbourne College and now a teacher. Earlier I referred to how rewarding it is to complete a circle and I think this applies to Pangbourne as well. Pangbourne College provides an environment which supports positive learning and life experiences whilst being underpinned by traditional structure and values.
