About me

If anyone had told me when I was younger that I would be a teacher I would have laughed, as I hated school and it was never something that I envisaged I would enjoy. Prior to teaching my career was very different. I worked for Imperial College as a research technician for 4 years and the following 10 years I worked as a Developmental Chemist for Castrol International where I formulated metal cutting fluids for the Asia-Pacific market. I took a part time job as a Teaching Assistant in a Secondary School once my children had started school and it was then that I realised that I did not know how to help any of the pupils that I was supporting.

I decided to re-educate myself and studied the OCR Level 5 and 7 courses that gave me the understanding and tools to assess and teach individuals with Specific Learning Difficulties. I have worked in several independent schools and was Head of Learning Support and SENCo for 4 years. I was self-employed as a private tutor and assessor when I came to Pangbourne to undertake a sessional teaching position and I have since become permanent staff. Outside of teaching I enjoy walking, swimming, baking, cake decorating, sewing and many other crafts. I basically enjoy being creative.

Why do I love teaching?

I really like to see pupils succeed when they didn't think that they could. It is very rewarding to see pupils make progress and watch their self-esteem improve when they do.

If I hadn't been a teacher I would have been...

I am not entirely sure but it would have been creative.

I would describe Pangbourne as...

Pangbourne is a community which is nurturing and encompassing.
