About me

Having completed a first class degree in English Literature at University of Exeter, a Masters in Shakespeare Studies at The Shakespeare Institute and a doctorate in English Literature at Exeter College, University of Oxford, I tutored undergraduates at a number of Oxford colleges for five years where I also interviewed prospective candidates for admissions.

I then moved into classroom teaching, working at Haberdashers’ Girls’ School in Elstree before coming to Pangbourne College. I have published a number of articles, and a book on Renaissance literature, 'Reciting Marlowe: Approaches to the Drama'. I am passionate about the close analysis of texts, and have specialist expertise in Renaissance drama and literature. Outside teaching, I am an avid reader, consuming a novel a week. I also enjoy attending art exhibitions and galleries, as well as the cinema.

Why do I love teaching English?

I am passionate about teaching English because I believe that it is a subject which not only allows us all to access the world fully and thoughtfully, but which also gives us the opportunity to experience the lives, feelings and ideas of others and thereby become better versions of ourselves.

My other roles at Pangbourne are:

Teacher of English and Film Studies

If I hadn't been a teacher I would have been...

I would have been a university lecturer and academic scholar

My role model is...

I have been greatly inspired by Professor Julia Briggs who supervised my doctorate at Hertford College, Oxford. She gave me the opportunity to teach undergraduates, to collaborate on her book 'Stage Play World', and to share in her great humanity towards students.

I would describe Pangbourne as...

I have taught at Pangbourne for many years, and my decision to remain committed to the school is because the College always puts the child first.
