About me

I was educated at boarding school in Oxford, followed by a Gap Year at The Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst and a stint as a Platoon Commander in the Royal Green Jackets and Rifles. I attended Exeter University and gained a degree in Geography and a PGCE in secondary teaching. I have taught Geography in the state sector in Cornwall, an independent school in Surrey where I was an Assistant House Master, before arriving at Pangbourne.

I love travel, cooking and all extreme sports. I have travelled to over 30 countries including time spent driving motor bikes the length of Vietnam, living with Inupiat tribes in the Arctic and surfing from an Indonesian junk on the outer reefs of Sumbawa, Indonesia. I love skiing and have competed and won on the Cresta Run in Switzerland and in warmer months take on long distance hiking routes around Europe. I am a qualified open water diver, a Francophile, converter of camper vans and lover of loud music. Most importantly I am a husband and a father. We have two horses, a sausage dog called Winston and a German Pointer called Harrison.

Why do I love teaching Geography?

I am not sure whether teaching Geography is a pleasure because it brings the wonders of our world into the classroom or transports the students out of the classroom around our wonderous world. Either way, I get to explore everyday with keen and inquisitive young people and I am honoured to be able to share in their journey as they navigate the courses over the years.

My other roles at Pangbourne are:

During my time at Pangbourne I have taught History, Religious Studies and Geography. I have coached U15 rugby and Junior and Senior Rowing.

I have spent time as a visiting tutor in Macquarie and supported the Duke of Edinburgh and outdoor education department.

If I hadn't been a teacher I would have been...

A chef, soldier or rock star.

My role model is...

Dave Grohl - rock star, dad and general all round good guy.

I would describe Pangbourne as...

A mad mix of tradition and frontier spirit. Everyday is different and there is something here for every student from Sport to Art, Drama to academia. Not least, this is home for many young men and women and boarding means that our days can be packed with not only vibrant teaching, but a plethora of clubs, societies and marching up and down the square with your mates!
