About me

Having graduated from Cardiff Metropolitan University in 2008 with a BA (Hons) Degree in Secondary Education Drama with English and Media, I have been teaching Drama for 13 years now. I initially taught for four years at Downe House and was promoted to Assistant Director of Drama. Ventures new then took me to Hong Kong where I taught Trinity Guildhall Drama qualifications for a year after travelling around South East Asia for two months. I returned to the UK to pursue a Head of Drama position at Churchmead School, where I taught for nearly four years and I was promoted to Director of Achievement (Head of House) after two years. I then returned to Downe House for two years as a Teacher of Drama and Key Stage Three Co-Ordinator before commencing my role at Kennet School as Assistant Head of Sixth Form and Teacher of Drama. I have been teaching at Pangbourne College for two years now and thoroughly enjoy it here.

Why do I love teaching Drama?

I love teaching Drama as it explores so many subjects using a kinaesthetic approach, such as Sociology, History, English Literature, Psychology etc. Having studied English Literature and Psychology as two of my A Level subjects, other keen interests of mine, I really enjoy incorporating this into my teaching of Drama where possible, especially when teaching the GCSE and A Level courses. I also value teaching Drama as it helps to impart many key skills upon our students, which they will require throughout their life, such as communication skills when working with others, public speaking, presenting and problem solving.

My other roles at Pangbourne are:

I teach the Trinity Guildhall Drama exam courses and I co-direct the various College productions. I am also the Head of Key Stage 3 (external).

If I hadn't been a teacher I would have been...

A Criminal Psychologist.

My role model is...

When I was young my Sixth Form College Drama Teacher inspired me to follow a specific pathway into teaching Secondary Drama as that's when I truly fell in love with the subject. However, initially, I wanted to be a Primary School Teacher for as long as I can remember. Now, I would say that I have been inspired by various colleagues I have worked with and those aspirational role models within the acting industry who advocate the arts and the benefits these have for all.

I would describe Pangbourne as...

One factor that struck me upon commencing my role at Pangbourne College was the strong community feel here. The staff and students made me feel very welcome and I continue to experience this atmosphere daily. I also believe the vast opportunities that Pangbourne College offer our young people is highly beneficial. It is a pleasure to work in such a lovely place with an idyllic countryside setting.
